Extraterrestrial intelligence.
Many scientists are searching for an extraterrestrial life. If we think that there are a lot of planets in the universe and many planets where life is possible, it is statistically possible to find some life outside the earth.
But for a part of the scientific community, this search can be very dangerous. If life is possible, maybe it is not a civilized life, maybe it is one like it was in earth at before humans.
It is also possible to find other civilizations, in this case the issue is totally different.
If a civilization have the same level than us, it is not very dangerous, it can be a good thing because we could exchange some words by radio like to countries who have diplomatic life.
But a civilization can explore space quickly, if they a better technology level it can be very dangerous for us. If the other civilization is as violent as human (human has been doing war for many centuries), it could be a big problem. If an other civilization need some supplies or resource we have on earth, what could be there reaction? If they can find us, communicate and come to us, why could not they come and destroy us?
Now we are too young to play this game. Gambling is always dangerous when we do not have the best game.
An other thing is possible, the possibility to find and bring back an unknown virus. When we see that we spend more money today for finding drugs against baldness than against malaria, what should be our reaction and our capacity against a virus more powerful than aids and cancer?
Going to other planets is very exiting but is it responsible? We can have to fight aids, cancer, lack of food... We have to understand space, it seems to be a matter of life and death because we will need a lot of natural resource to live but maybe we could live on earth without destroy all. This could be very difficult for humans.
Some people think that extraterrestrial civilization know that we exists but is such advanced than us that they prefer not speak with us and just visit us sometimes because they understand we are violent and egoistic!
